Animal Program

Animals in rural Senegal are a necessary part of life, spanning generations. Livestock farming plays a key role in Senegal's economy, contributing to agriculture, food security, and job creation in rural areas. The animal care programs have become central to animal health and wellness, spanning past Ngonine and into the Fatick and Fessele areas.

In 2024, 900 animals across 13 villages received care. The feed store generated a 62% profit increase, and the livestock manager raised 10 healthy animals (8 rams and 2 ewes).

Veterinary Services

We provide specialized veterinarian and pharmaceutical care for animals in Ngonine and neighboring villages. Our veterinarian is Timothy Ousmane, who is mentored and trained by a strategic partner who practices in Thiés. Ousmane holds governmental authorization to serve 8 surrounding villages and continues to apply for more.

Feed Store

The store’s facilities and equipment support the Animal Program as well as the Agriculture Program by repurposing millet and peanut remnants for animal feed. The store provides access to animal medicines and animal feed that is sold and showcases how necessities are both grown and sold in the village, building an internal economic ecosystem.

Livestock

Our newest Animal Program venture includes sheep being raised and then sold for profit at the local market. We provide animal feed and purchase capital, but the pastoralists are responsible for animal shelter and veterinarian bills.

“Thanks to the training he received, Timothy’s work has been a lifeline for our family, animals, and people relying on cattle in the area. I have watched my son grow into a person of immense responsibility and compassion. It’s nothing short of a miracle!”
